Rusty DePass, South Carolina GOP Activist, Says Escaped Gorilla Was Ancestor Of Michelle Obama (VIDEO)

A few weeks ago, I posted a blog entry in response to all of the ludicrous, insensitive, and racially bigoted statements being made at the time about Sonia Sotomayor. The title of the blog post was a simple question:

Are All Republicans Racist?

Obviously, many conservatives took exception to the question. They felt I was assuming that the actions of a few were indicative of the views of anyone subscribing to the same belief system. I didn't apologize, but instead pointed out that if they don't think these people are representing their own views, maybe they should see about removing their sorry asses from the public eye.

The fact that former South Carolina Senator Rusty DePass made a joke referring to an escaped gorilla as a possible descendant of Michelle Obama's might be bad enough. The fact that his apology for the statement included the phrase "...if I offended anyone," implying that the racist statement he made ("...clearly in jest...") wasn't offensive too him, but might have been taken the wrong way by others, could definitely be considered as adding insult to injury. His final insistence that the comment "...was hers, not mine," a somewhat half-assed attempt to insist that the Michelle Obama is responsible for the comment because she is not a Creationist, is truly the perfect example of the obliviousness that GOP leaders and spokespersons feel the need to display on a daily basis.

So, I ask again: Are all Republicans racists?
